The New Sexy Sobar

Sobar is looking swanky after a £30,000 revamp.

Following the recent news of Jesters’ refurbishment, the Soton Tab can reveal that student favourite Sobar has also undergone major renovation.

The Portswood club launched their new sexy self on Friday, just in time for Freshers’ fun.

It now consists of a vast patio dotted with lights. There are even suggestions of the new beer garden being used as an alfresco dance floor.

 

Meanwhile the interior is largely the same, with just a fresh coat of paint and some faux leather sofas thrown in for good measure.

The only major structural changes are the move of the door to the garden. Only time will tell if this will help reduce the Tuesday night squish.

While the renovation may be news to us, it turns out the work on the upstairs interior has been on the cards for a while. Sobar told The Tab:

after years of partying Sobar was looking a little tired.

Following the arson attack earlier this summer, the outdoor area had to be upgraded too.

Plans to refurb the toilet and downstairs area are also scheduled for later on in the year. The work was supposed to be completed in time for Freshers’, but with the unexpected garden work this didn’t happen.

All in all the work cost a  £30,000, but luckily for our pockets drinks prices are staying the same!

New event Chaos Fridays are being launched this year. With 80p drinks, Sobar might be giving Jesters a run for their money…
