Anyone living in Portswood will have noticed that a flashy new spot has opened up opposite Waitrose- that new restaurant/shisha/gelato bar is called Aroma Lounge.

Having heard that it’s worth checking out, I decided to venture on down to see whether it was worth the praise.

A comfortable yellow and black leather setting that is far from tacky. The tables and floors all seemed clean which is good.

There’s an extensive menu with food that students may not often get to experience, and at reasonable prices.

Ok- it’s not an incredibly flashy menu – but their mix grill was very tasty and worth the money. The choices range from comfort food, such as lamb chops, to more interesting options such as chicken Tajin.

There is also a ten percent off student offer on food, which is always appreciated.

After the main course you can try something a little sweeter.  I’m going to stick my neck out here and say I actually enjoyed the gelato more than Sprinkles. Plus it’s all made with fresh fruit and on site.

They have also employed over twenty Southampton students, which is always a bonus for the student population.

Overall, I was impressed with Aroma Lounge. I went  expecting average food with the gimmick of shisha outside to bring people in, but I was wrong.

The staff we’re incredibly friendly and helpful, and it have to say I definitely left with a smile on my face and would recommend it to anyone who fancies a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere. It caters for students and families.

I  also sampled some of the shisha. There was an interesting range available, with flavours that were far from generic and you would almost certainly not find in your usual shisha bar. It was pretty cold outside though.

No discrimination but the older generation citizens need to visit before passing judgement from what they read about shisha in the Daily Mail.

Just what southampton needed really. If you’ve been manchester/london/birmingham/egypt even, the buzz from the atmosphere in this place is reminiscent when very busy, but with a higher quality decor.

Shisha flavour range is decent too, bring a coat as its a bit nippy outdoors even with the garden heaters. Havent tried the food yet

Best ice-cream I’ve tasted in Southampton, been to Sprinkles and Scoops 2-3 times. I went there with my family and also had some shisha which was very good. After that I had a Chicken Tikka burger which was the best burger I’ve ever tasted. The staff was very polite and the shop was shining clean.

We (group of 18 of us) went for food and shisha last night having booked ahead. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, though I think they were slightly understaffed as there was a lot of commotion. It was a Monday and was very busy which was maybe unexpected. The food was brilliant, I tried the aroma burger which is IMO much tastier than the greaseball served by 7bone. The shisha was one of the best we’d tastes though it was a cold evening, overall 9/10.

Best place I’ve ever been. I’ve tried a wide range of food from The Aroma Burger to the fish fingers. Food is always on point whenever I go and the staff are extremely polite. The ice cream is the best I’ve tasted in a long time and being Italian myself I can honestly say the gelato is as good if not better than some of that sold in Italy. On top of this the Shisha is amazing and the staff designated to the Shisha area are virtuous polite and easy to talk to. Overall 10/10. Definitely would recommend.
