Over the next two weeks, there will be General Election debates in Southampton’s constituencies for students and the public to go and hear what their local MP’s have to offer.

SUSU has teamed up with Southampton Solent’s SU to bring the events to Southampton as part of their ‘Your Voice Your Vote’ campaign.

The likelihood is that students at the University of Southampton will fall either into the Southampton Test or the Southampton Itchen constituency, but you may also be in Southampton North & Romsey or Winchester.

You will need to search your postcode online to find out which one you live in. We tried looking on the Ordnance Survey, but the map wasn’t very clear…

The four constituencies that affect students that will be holding these talks are:

Southampton Test

27th April – Garden Court, Building 40, Highfield Campus
18.00 – 20.30

All candidates from the five major parties are attending, plus an independent candidate.

You can register for the event .

Southampton Itchen

1st May – Sir James Matthews Building, 157-187 Above Bar Street, Southampton
18.00 – 20.30

The candidates from six parties are attending, the five major parties in England as well as the TUSC.

There is no event link for this as of yet.

Southampton North & Romsey

2nd May – Glen Eyre Dining Hall
18.00 – 20.30

So far the candidates from the five major parties in England have confirmed that they are attending.

You can get tickets to the event here.

Winchester

There was due to be a debate at the Winchester School of Art Cafe, but after only one candidate signed up to attend, students are encouraged to go along to this event instead.

The Bridge will also be open all night for the General Election Results. The live coverage begins at ten and will be shown throughout the evening, with the bar being open for both food and drink.

Register to vote here. The deadline is Monday!

The ordnance survey online map is a lot more useful than that shrunk screenshot makes it seem.

Just tick the box for westminster constituencies, select the option to show names, and you’re good to go.

Also note to author/editor – MPs should not have an apostrophe there.
