Westridge Road has been named as one of the biggest crime spots in the country.

Data from the Home Office ranked it joint 39th on its Top 50 list.

The road has a large student population, with around half of the houses being let out to students.

Westridge has experienced the highest crime rate in Portswood

Westridge has experienced the highest crime rate in Portswood

Portswood and crime have long been associated with each other, with this data further proof to the stereotype.

The only real shock may be that it is Westridge that has been deemed the worst, with other roads in Portswood certainly more notorious among students.

There is no direct link in the data released between the crime rate and the student population,

Laundry Road, near Southampton General Hospital, is also amongst the list, as well as an unnamed ‘Nightclub’ on West Quay Road.

You can view the full list here.

What do you think of the data? Would you have expected it to be a different road in Portswood? Let us know in the comments!

I wonder if that includes crimes like parking violations: because plenty of people park on those double yellow lines ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Otherwise it’s still worrying :/

Are these real crimes or just people dealing a bit of spliff. Because if its drugs its probs doing a favour to the students, but if its actually bad things like robbery and assault we should probably care.

Also loads of really rapey guys in oceana (likely the ‘unnamed nightclub’). Depressing but not really suprising
